Prometheus

Movie Name: PrometheusRating: 14AGenre:  Sci-fiOpening Date: June 8th 2012Starring: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize TheronDirector: Ridley ScottTaking place some 80 years in the future and about 50 years before Alien, Prometheus is about two archaeologists discover a similar planetary map in cave drawing and ancient artefacts from different unconnected civilizations thousands of years and miles apart. They visit the planet from the map in hopes of discovering mankind’s origins, but they soon learn that they are not alone on the planet and their hosts may not be friendliest species.Prometheus was excellent. Ridley Scott returns to the Alien universe with many of elements  that made the original so successful. It had suspense, so much that I could barely look away from the screen. It was visually stunning. I didn’t see it in 3D, but I kind of regret it now, it was THAT good! As for the acting, it was alright, Michael Fassbender was great as the android David, and no performances really stuck out as being really bad. Scott’s direction is what really stole the show though, he proves that he is still the king of Sci-fi horror, there really is no one who compares.                  I only recall there being two instances of smoking: The first was when the captain comes out of his cryogenic sleep. I didn’t find it very necessary, but it was only on screen for a few seconds and no attention was drawn to it. The other instance is when the geologist is lost in the caves and he is smoking marijuana in his space suit. Again, it’s not really necessary, but is only on screen for a few seconds and is purely for comedic relief.                  Overall, I give the movie a rating of 5/5.
