Men in Black 3

Movie Genre: Sci-Fi actionRating: PGOpening Date: May 25, 2012Director: Barry SonnenfeldStarring: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin  Guess whose back? The Men In Black in 3D. A decade later after the release of the second Men In Black movie. MIB 3 takes place in the familiar setting of New York City, but starts on the moon with a jailbreak by Boris The Animal, played by a favourite actor/musician/comedian of mine; Jemaine Clement. Will Smith returns to dawn the black suit as Agent J along side Tommy Lee Jones as the infamous Agent K.  In the third instalment of this popular sci-fi action series, 40 years after his imprisonment Boris The Animal escapes the Lunar Maximum Security prison built specifically to hold him. (When I say Lunar, I mean it quite literally, it’s on the moon!!!)  After he escapes, he travels back in time and kills Agent K preventing him from ever imprisoning Boris and altering another critical event that prevented an alien invasion from happening. However, with K now dead the aliens show up and only one man can save the earth, J.  Agent J must travel back in time to save K from Boris and save the earth at the same time. This movie was shot in eye-popping 3D and it paid off but more importantly was Will Smiths performance as well as Josh Brolin. Tommy takes a back seat in this film because of the time travel aspect to the films plot. The chemistry between Smith and Brolin is quite good and has you rooting for the duo. There are some quite comedic scenes in movie, such as seeing an alien have his head being substituted for a bowling ball. The best part is there is 0 smoking or product placement. One cannot really say there is a message related to health in this movie as it is about aliens and time travel.  Overall I greatly enjoyed this movie. It had a nice flow to it, good writing and acting as well as awesome 3D.

Battleship

Movie Critic:Camilo SanchezMovie Title: BattleshipRating: PGMovie Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi, ThrillerOpening Date: May 18th, 2012Director: Peter BergStarring:Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Liam NeesonBased on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships that come across alien forces while on a Naval war games exercise. But when Alien vessels appear with superior weapons and start sinking naval ships, it is up to him and his crew to save the world and impress his admiral. This film also features Rihanna in her big screen debut as she plays a petty officer and proves a celebrated performance with a great leap forward into her acting career.Battleship delivers a visual assault which proves to be predictable at times and is a basic combination of Battle Los Angeles, Independence Day and Transformers. The film also includes several instances of Alcohol consumption and violence. However, it does not include any type of smoking. Overall, battle ship earns a 3/5 for an outstanding performance by all cast members. Rating: 3/5

Marvel’s The Avengers

Movie genre: Action, Adventure

Movie rating: PG
Opening Date: May 4th, 2012

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson
Director: Joss Whedon   Marvel’s The Avengers tells the story of a group of superheroes brought together to protect the earth against a villain who threatens the freedom of the human race. When dangerous super villain, Loki steals the very powerful cosmic cube, The Avengers: Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, The Black Widow and Hawkeye must join forces to retrieve the cube and save the world.    The Avengers, the latest blockbuster hit by the very talented Joss Whedon, packed an incredibly exciting and adventurous punch. Equipped with a star-studded cast, classic storyline (good vs. evil, you know how it goes) and a whole lot of CGI, The Avengers surely wows on many fronts. When the band of superheroes aren’t throwing down some impressive moves, they perfectly play off each other’s natural chemistry and deliver some great wit and banter. Everyone in the theater enjoyed themselves-seriously they couldn’t stop laughing-and were truly immersed in each scene. The movie, however, did falter on a few points. Although the premise of  bringing together a band of  beloved heroes in one film is fresh and exciting, the plot itself proves to be predictable. The Avengers provides moviegoers with a fun experience, but it isn’t groundbreaking. It relies on the cast and the effects to elevate it, seeing as the storyline itself cannot stand alone. With that said, The Avengers earns a healthy 4/5 rating and is recommended for all those who seek adventure and a genuinely entertaining movie experience. On a brighter note, The Avengers did not contain any smoking (applause). Each character was extremely believable and stayed true to their role, without having to light up a cigarette (more applause). There were a few examples of product placement and one reference to weed, however, these quick mentions were not the main focus of the film.

Monte Carlo

Three young women vacationing in Paris find themselves whisked away to Monte Carlo after one of the girls is mistaken for a British heiress. Movie Critic: Nasma AhmedMovie Title: Monte CarloMovie Genre: Comedy and Romance Rated: PGOpening Date: July 1, 2011 Starring: Selena GomezDirector: Thomas Bezchu Review :I was quite surprised by the fact the movie was enjoyable I am not a fan of Selena Gomez but she really created the character in the movie. Also the director did a great job in capturing the feelings of the girls from Texas and going to an environment unlike their own. The scenes were absolutely wonderful especially the scenery of beautiful Monte Carlo and Paris were truly captured.I would recommend this movie to other girls especially because it is more of a chick flick for tweens. People who are a fan of Selena will really see her shine in this movie. Sadly this movie really reminded me of the Lizze McGuire movie shot a few years ago with Hilary Duff. Almost the same situation but instead of being mistaken for a British Heiress Lizze McGuire (Hilary Duff) was mistaken to be a music star. The story line though had a lot of similarities both Selena and Hilary’s character seem to be the exact same. But for people who haven’t watched the Lizze McGuire movie will take this as an enjoyable movie. There was no scenes where smoking was involved which is not much of a shocker due to the fact many characters in the movie are just graduating high school it would not have made sense for them to be smoking . A great movie all around!

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2

This action-pack, compelling journey of the wizards we love, is full of suspense and adventure. Viewers will watch as they attempt to destroy the horcruxes and defeat Voldemort to bring safety back into the wizarding world. As we stick with the characters through their ups and downs and the life-threatening obstacles they face, we are moved by their bravery and courage. This was an amazing way to finish off this legendary saga.Movie genre:Action, Adventure, Family, Fantasy, MysteryRated: PGOpening date: July 15th, 2011Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph FiennesDirector: David YatesTobacco use: There is no use of tobacco throughout the movieMovie ReviewThis last movie really brought the entire franchise together. The graphics were spectacular and you can tell that they made the effort to make the final film as epic as they could. Fans of the series will not be disappointed at the major storyline scenes. Even if you’re not a fan of the books, you will definitely feel your heart race as Harry, Ron and Hermione overcome the obstacles to defeat Voldemort. There was no smoking in this movie and the characters did not appear less realistic because it is a movie based on wizards and magic so the thought of smoking did not even come to mind. Instead, we were focused on them defeating Voldemort.Rating5 out of 5 popcorn bags

It was a very predictable movie.

Soul Surfer

Soul Surfer tells the true story of Bethany Hamilton.  At 13, she was attacked by a shark and lost her arm.  Determined to continue surfing, with the help and support from her parents, she gets back up and does what she never thought was possible: surf with one arm. Movie genre:Action, Drama, SportRated:PGOpening date:April 8, 2011Starring:AnnaSophia Robb, Denis Quaid, Helen Hunt, Craig T. Nelson and Carrie UnderwoodDirector:Sean McNamaraTobacco use (How often throughout the movie?):N/AAnnaSophia Robb (who plays Bethany Hamilton) does a fantastic job of portraying Bethany in the movie.  She captures the emotion, and the determination that makes the movie so motivating and inspiring.  The actors gave their best performances, as you can really feel the struggles of the Hamilton family.  At the end of the movie, clips of Bethany surfing play on the screen which makes this movie even more surreal. The thing I loved most about Soul Surfer was the fact that even when I got home after, I still couldn’t stop thinking about the movie.  Most films, you quickly forget about them; but the message I got from Soul Surfer really stuck with me.Throughout the whole movie, my eyes were glued to the screen. I think that this movie was well put together, and really captivates the audience.  I would definitely recommend this movie to teens and adults; it’s a great movie that everyone should see.
