Our Current Ratings System
Film ratings are used to give the public advance information about the nature of the film content. They are also used to restrict admission to films whose content is inappropriate, unsuitable or hazardous for younger viewers. In Ontario, the province’s Film Classification Act, 2005 gives the Ontario Film Board (OFRB) the authority to review and classify film that is exhibited, rented or sold in Ontario. Films designed to provide information, education or instructions (such as documentaries or travelogues) are exempt from this requirement.
